It would be easier to call ourselves an agency. The word is understood, it sells, and it sets a comfortable expectation on both sides: you hand over a brief, we hand back deliverables, everyone moves on. We deliberately chose not to use it, and the reason matters for anyone deciding whether to work with us.
An agency sells output. A practice brings judgement.
An agency is organised around producing things — campaigns, decks, assets — to a brief someone else wrote. A practice is organised around a problem. We are not here to execute a brief you have already decided on; we are here to help you work out whether it is the right brief in the first place, and then to stay close while it becomes real.
We stay on your side of the table
The quiet failure of the agency model is that the risk never moves. The work is delivered, the invoice is paid, and if the strategy was wrong, that is the client's problem to discover later. We work the other way: close to the business, accountable for the thinking, and still in the room when the consequences land. That is a different relationship, and it is not for everyone.
Judgement is the product
What you are actually hiring is a point of view — the clarity to see the business as it really is, and the conviction to say what should happen next even when it is not what you hoped to hear. You cannot brief that in advance, and you cannot buy it by the deliverable. It comes from people who have built, and who have been wrong, and who have learned the difference.
Selective by necessity, not for show
Because the work is this close, we take on a small number of clients at a time. That is not exclusivity as marketing; it is the only way to do the work properly. It also means the decision to work together is mutual — we are choosing the problem as much as you are choosing us.
So we call ourselves a consulting and advisory practice, and we mean the distinction. If what you need is production to a fixed brief, there are excellent agencies for that, and we will happily point you to them. If what you need is someone to help you decide what the brief should be — and then help you make it real — that is the work we exist to do.
